Who We Are

Who We Are

We Are A Jesus Church

History tells us that Jesus of Nazareth lived in the first century, was crucified on a Roman cross in Jerusalem, and buried in a borrowed tomb. Three days later, the tomb was found empty, and eyewitnesses began to proclaim that Jesus had risen from the dead. This pivotal event changed everything. Men and women placed their faith in Jesus and ordered their lives around his teachings, seeking to become more like him. From these events, the Jesus movement was born—and it continues to this day.

Our church exists to participate in this age-old movement in our own day, right here in Iowa City, as an independent, non-denominational Christian church. We invite you to join us as we follow King Jesus together—growing to become more like him and learning to live on mission with him in our everyday lives.

Our Mission

Love God. Love people. Make disciples.

Our Beliefs

As a Jesus Church, This is What We Believe.

We are an independent, non-denominational Christian church, in fellowship with other churches in The Restoration Movement. This movement seeks to follow Jesus and the New Testament as closely as possible, without being bound by denominations or human traditions. Its goal is to promote unity among believers and restore the practices and mission of the early church.

About God

We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who became flesh to reveal God to humanity and to become the Savior of the lost world.

About the Bible

We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Spirit of God to write the very words of Scripture. Therefore, we believe the Bible is without error. It is our final authority on how we operate and function.

About Humanity

People are made in the image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”. This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life.

About Salvation

This is God’s free gift to us, but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus, as God’s offer of forgiveness, can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. Forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life are available to those who give their allegiance to Christ as Savior and Lord. Those choosing to follow Jesus should repent of sin, confess their faith, and be baptized into Him.

About Eternity

People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be forever in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

About the Christian Life

We believe all Christians are called to live for Christ, not for themselves. As we obey God’s Word and yield daily to His Spirit, we grow and become more like Jesus—living on mission with Him and reflecting His character in our lives.
